I'm watching Broken Flowers for the second time. I was inspired because I recently came across an older issue of GQ that featured an interview with Bill Murray and my fondness, which had been buried under other obligations for a few months, was stirred anew. In the text the interviewer mentions something I had not considered before: "There's this whole generation of twentysomething kids who think you're an art-film guy. Coppola, Anderson, Jarmusch". Now I, for one, somewhat dislike the term "twentysomething", probably from its overuse on Thought Catalog. But it's true: that's absolutely how I consider Murray when I think of him. I picture red-capped Steve Zissou rather than Peter Venkman, Japan-struck Bob Harris instead of Carl Tackler. In my mind, Murray represents characters I have identified with emotionally rather than laughed at outright. I'm happy this way.
